Summary On May 4, 1970 students gathered at Kent State in Kent, Ohio. They were protesting the Vietnam War, specifically America's invasion of Cambodia. On this day armed troops were called to Kent to watch over the protest. As the protest grew out of hand the soldiers threw tear gas and fired multiple rounds. Four students were killed and nine others were injured. The Kent State Shooting serves to symbolize the division that existed in the country during the Vietnam War.

Sectionalism The Kent St Massacre is an example of sectionalism because the nation was divided. Many of the people in the United States protested vehemently to pull out of Vietnam. However, these protesters were met with opposition from the Federal government. In this example, the opposition is violent.
